BLACKJACK CARD COUNTING'S 7 DEADLY SINS

#7 DOUBT

The mathematics of Blackjack card counting can seem cold and boring to those who don’t comprehend its underlying meaning. On the surface it is merely probabilities, rules and endless tables, all of which must be mastered in order to gain that small edge over the house. Beneath that, however, is something elegantly simple: that small edge can completely change your life if you simply believe in it. Math does not lie or even exaggerate. If you count cards accurately and employ sound betting and playing strategy then you will win money, in the long run. If you do not trust the math or do not play often enough to realize your edge then you will never have faith in your system. The edge that proficient Blackjack players, i.e. card counters, enjoy today is between 1% and 2%, depending on their skill level and the rules at the casinos in which they play. This may not sound significant, but if your average bet is $100 and you play 75 hands per hour, 20 hours per week, 45 weeks per year, with a 1.5% edge, you will earn over $100,000 every year—cash. That is the power of the edge over the house. That is the power of having faith in your edge. That is the power that can change your life.

#6 WRATH

Faith in one’s edge is one thing. Having the discipline to play consistently through times of adversity is something entirely different. You may trust that you have the edge, but when you encounter that inevitable losing streak, how do you react? Erratic play born of emotional turmoil has been the downfall of more card counters than all casino rule changes combined. What causes erratic play even when you know you have an edge over the house? The loss of several big bets in a row, a losing streak several sessions in length, losing track of the count mid-shoe—any number of things can cause you to feel that no matter what you do you’re never going to get ahead. That point usually comes when you’re down to your last few chips and you decide to just put all of them on the line in a desperate attempt to get back to even. Do not surrender to your anger. Losing your bankroll for the day is a frequent occurrence when playing Blackjack professionally, but I have lost count of the number of times that I have been down to my very last chip, only to come all the way back and end with a winning session. Emotional discipline is one of the cornerstones to success in any endeavor. Through its ease of use, the Blackjack Freedom system builds confidence which allows your self-discipline to grow stronger with each session.

#5: COWARDICE

Mastering a powerful card counting system is an exercise in futility if you're emotionally unable to lay down your big bet when the count demands it. This always seems to happen right after a string of losing hands when having the ability to "pull the trigger" on a deck with a high count is more important than ever. Blackjack Freedom is a system so easy to master that it will make these situations not only painless, but looked forward to with great anticipation.

#4 IMPATIENCE

Playing with an edge over the house does not mean you're going to win every hand, despite what movies like "21" would have you believe. As you're probably already aware, frequent losses are an inevitable consequence in the game of Blackjack, even if you’re a skilled card counter. I have no doubt that there have been thousands of mathematically gifted men and women for whom the counting and memorization of strategy was child's play, but who ultimately threw in the towel because they could not endure the emotional or financial swings that are intrinsic to the game. Blackjack Freedom recounts my own battle with this formidable problem and the "self-tranquilizing" techniques that I have devised to overcome them.

#3 SLOTH

Playing Blackjack at a casino with unfavorable rules is like swimming at a beach with "Shark Warning" posted everywhere. You can do it, and you might have an uneventful swim, but stay in the water long enough and you'll get mauled. There's simply no reason to do this when you can usually travel a short distance and enjoy much safer waters. It just takes a little legwork on your part to determine the best places to play—and I don’t mean in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. In fact, local tribal casinos often offer the most favorable rules for the player, without nearly as much heat. Blackjack Freedom will not only tell you which rules variations to avoid, but give you a link to an affordable newsletter that details all of the current rules variations for every casino in the U.S., giving you a list of the best places to play in your area. If you choose to purchase Blackjack Freedom, I will deduct the cost of a 6-month subscription to this extremely informative publication that no professional Blackjack player should be without.

#2 PRIDE & GREED

In Blackjack, pride and greed are indistinguishable transgressions. The inability to disguise your play and "fly under the radar" will end your blackjack career quicker than a continuous shuffle machine. If you are unable to remain a faceless, nameless, innocuous nobody who can walk away from a table without frequently winning a suspiciously large amount of money, then it is only a matter of time before you are detected as a counter and told by casinos to exit and never return. Oddly enough, greed and the psychological need that many have for recognition as winners outweigh their desire to remain professional blackjack players. Blackjack Freedom explores this psychology and explains in great detail everything I do to avoid detection and remain a very successful counter.

#1 IGNORANCE

Ignorance is not the same as stupidity. Stupidity implies a lack of ability; ignorance refers to a lack of knowledge. The single greatest reason why many would-be card counters fail, in my opinion, is their inability to keep an accurate count of the deck and vary their play and bet amounts accordingly—not because they are unable, because they have not been enabled. Performing multiple math calculations in your head quickly and accurately requires great concentration. With distraction all around you and the need to look like you're just another casual, fun-loving player, it is a daunting task which very few have truly mastered. However, I have developed a very simple method that eliminates the most cumbersome element of card-counting, enabling anyone to count effectively and become a skilled advantage player. This is the single most powerful weapon in the Blackjack Freedom arsenal and the one that turned my Blackjack career around.
